Aaron Rousseau ✉
Aaron Rousseau is a founding partner of the firm. Aaron focuses on labour and employment law as well as civil litigation.
Aaron began his career at a large Bay Street law firm. He later worked for several years at a specialized employment law firm before founding Rousseau Mazzuca LLP.
He has appeared at every level of court in Ontario. He also appears before labour arbitrators, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and Tribunal, and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. He is also experienced in workplace investigations.
Aaron has been called upon as a commentator on employment law issues by The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star, and has appeared on the CBC and CTV to discuss workplace law. Aaron has also published numerous articles in the Dismissal and Employment Law Digest and the Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine.
In university, Aaron won both the National and the North American debating championships.
Outside of work, Aaron enjoys traveling (including to the Canadian Arctic), mountain-climbing, and practising the martial art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Representative Work:
Obtained a judgment for 24 months of pay in lieu of notice for a wrongfully dismissed employee
Negotiated a new collective agreement for a Toronto non-profit in the shadow of a lock-out
Represented a bar manager before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal who was sexually harassed and fired by the owner
Developed a stock option plan for a Toronto technology company for its employees
Defended an employee sued for theft by his former employer, while also obtaining a court judgment against the employer for wrongful dismissal, unpaid overtime, and unpaid holiday pay
Defended a garage-door manufacturer against a distributor seeking a court order to reinstate their commercial agreement
Defended a commercial real estate development company against allegations of fraud by its business partners
Obtained workplace accommodation for an office worker’s depression and anxiety
Prepared COVID-19 health and safety policies for an energy company for employees to return to in-person attendance at its head office
Obtained a proper severance package for an employee improperly characterized by her employer as an “independent contractor”
Defended a technology executive sued by a former employer under a non-competition agreement
