Derek Kim is an associate at Rousseau Mazzuca LLP.
Drawing from his past entrepreneurial and consulting experience, Derek combines out-of-the-box thinking and business know-how to solve difficult problems.
Derek’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, employment and labour, and construction law. He routinely counsels owners, architects, consultants, contractors, and subtrades on liens and breach of trust claims under the Construction Act, and on project disputes involving extras, delays, and deficiencies.
Derek earned his B.A. with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University and his J.D. from Queen’s University while completing semesters abroad at Seoul National University, Graduate School of International Studies and the University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law. In law school, Derek was a Volunteer Editor for the Queen’s Law Journal and the recipient of the Dr. Stanley Harwood McCuaig Scholarship for the highest academic achievement in Property Law and the Faculty of Law Dean’s Council Diversity Award.
As a former Director and Treasurer of the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association, Derek is pleased to interact with clients in both English and Korean.
Out of the courtroom, Derek enjoys playing golf and chess.
