Daniel P. Sommers

Daniel is a lawyer at Rousseau Mazzuca LLP. His practice is focused on criminal defence.

Daniel previously launched and managed a successful law firm for over ten years practising predominantly criminal law, and also worked as an Assistant Crown Attorney, prosecuting various criminal offences. He has appeared at all levels of court in Ontario, and has argued at the Supreme Court of Canada. He has been an assessor several times at Ryerson University's Law Practice Program for criminal law matters and was chairman of the ethics working group of the International Society of Military Science.

Daniel has experience in a broad range of criminal cases, ranging from simple theft to homicide, impaired driving and complex sexual assault cases. He has also handled quasi-criminal cases pertaining to importation of firearms and white collar offences. In addition to his civilian legal work, Daniel served nine years in the Canadian Army Reserve, with five of those years in combat units and four of those years in the legal branch of the Canadian Forces, the Office of the Judge Advocate General (JAG). As a legal officer with the JAG, Daniel defended soldiers charged with military and criminal offences in courts martial.

 In his spare time, Daniel enjoys horse riding, classic English poetry, camping, and training in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
